2023 Vancouver Pro Predictions

A Canadian bodybuilding tradition continues in Vancouver. The 2023 Vancouver Pro will be held in Abbotsford, BC on Saturday, July 15th and 16th. The show will hold amateur contests as well as six IFBB Pro League contests, with each of the winners earning a qualification to the 2023 Olympia in Orlando, Florida, if they’re not qualified already. Here’s how we think the shows will break down by the end of the weekend.

Men’s Open

  • Prince Boabang
  • Eiren Gauley
  • Stan de Longeaux
  • Morgan MacDonald
  • Hassan Mostafa
  • Nathan Spear

The men’s open lineup only features six athletes, but others could jump in as long as they do so before the Athlete’s Meeting. Hassan Mostafa has been on a mission to earn a qualification to the Olympia, but he’s come up one spot short twice. Third time is going to be the charm, we think. Stan de Longeaux will make it interesting, but we expect Mostafa to finally get that win he needs to move on to Orlando.

  1. Hassan Mostafa
  2. Stan de Longeaux
  3. Nathan Spear

Classic Physique

  • Isaac Baier
  • Adam Beveridge
  • Dylan Bursey
  • Billy Danh
  • Carl Gauthier
  • Narek Khachatryan
  • John Le
  • Jesse Strand
  • Robert Waterhouse

Only two men in this lineup are not from Canada – Jesse Strand is an American, and Robert Waterhouse represents England. Carl Gauthier was second at the Toronto Pro in June, and some fans felt he could’ve won it. In our opinion, he’s the early favorite and will earn an Olympia qualification in his rookie season. We got Canada representing the entire top three, with the other two spots being taken by Isaac Baier and Adam Beveridge.

  1. Carl Gauthier
  2. Adam Beveridge
  3. Isaac Baier

Men’s Physique

  • Wagner Abreu
  • Xezekiel Afanou
  • Patrick Asiedu
  • Austin Belanger
  • Drew Cullen
  • Jason Huynh
  • Kamal Ait Irhmour
  • Mehdi Kabbadj
  • Clarence Lau
  • Chuan-Yu Liu
  • Eric Neal
  • Chevy Phillips
  • Gurjinder Virk

The most competitive field on the men’s side could be Men’s Physique. Xezekiel Afanou is the highest finisher from 2022 in this show. He took third one year ago. He would be the favorite, except that Toronto Pro winner Mehdi Kabbadj is also in this show. We expect them to be the top two, but we’ll take Afanou in an upset. The bronze spot is open to everyone, but we will take Chevy Phillips to fill that slot.

  1. Xezekiel Afanou
  2. Mehdi Kabbadj
  3. Chevy Phillips

Fitness

  • Noemie Champagne-Cloutier
  • Danielle DaCosta
  • Michelle Fredua-Mensah
  • Stephanie Jones
  • Sara Kovach
  • Jessica Ann Zehr

The Fitness contest has six athletes, but four of them are well-known competitors. Daniell DaCosta, Michelle Fredua-Mensah, Stephanie Jones, and Sara Kovach were all in the 2022 Olympia, with Kovach finishing in fourth place and Fredua-Mensah taking fifth. They all need to qualify for the 2023 Olympia, but only one can at this show. It will come down to the wire, but we think Kovach will make the most out of the opportunity and take the win.

  1. Sara Kovach
  2. Michelle Fredua-Mensah
  3. Stephanie Jones

Figure

  • Dalila Alegria
  • Autumn Cleveland
  • Lauren Martin-Stow
  • Gina Palma
  • Paige Sabedra
  • Rachel Shoemake

Autumn Cleveland needed several shows to take that first win and Olympia qualification in 2022, but we think she will take the victory in Vancouver and earn that trip to Orlando early. The rest of the field could be close from top to bottom, but Dalila Alegria and Lauren Martin-Stow who we think will take second and third, respectively.

  1. Autumn Cleveland
  2. Dalila Alegria
  3. Lauren Martin-Stow

Bikini

  • Rhoda Allie
  • Jill E. Humphrey
  • Ashley Kaltwasser
  • Kateryna Kauffmann
  • Kristy Ann Keppel
  • Nikki Kiani
  • Meggy Martin-Johnson
  • Maxine Alexandra Somov
  • Gina Switzeny
  • Tianna Weymouth

Ashley Kaltwasser became the first IFBB Pro in any division to win 40 shows. She will kick off her road to 50 in Vancouver, and we don’t see anyone stopping her train of momentum heading into this contest. Jill Humphrey will make her 2023 debut at this show, and we think she will be in that callout with Kaltwasser and take second place. Nikki Kiani has had an up and down season thus far, but we can see her taking a top three position in this show.

  1. Ashley Kaltwasser
  2. Jill E. Humphrey
  3. Nikki Kiani
